Leaving Cert Results Are Out – What Happens Next?
Congratulations to the Class of 2025! You have arrived at an important milestone in getting to Leaving Cert results day. Whatever the outcome, take the next couple of days to celebrate (safely) what you have achieved in getting to this point and look forward to what lies ahead. Enjoy today for today, the end of one stage and the beginning of another.
Over the next week there are lots of important dates and deadlines regarding accessing exam data, viewing of scripts and applying to appeal subjects. Most of this happens via the Candidate Self-Service Portal (CSSP).
Key dates and deadlines
Tuesday, August 26th from 12 noon – Candidates can see component marks for each subject including orals, aurals, practicals, projects and the written part of the paper.
Tuesday, August 26th from 5pm – Applications to view exam scripts open
Wednesday, August 27th at 8pm – Applications to view exam scripts close
The viewing of examinations scripts is free of charge.
Saturday, August 30th at 9am to Sunday, August 31st at 9am – Access available to view scripts for exams which were marked online. Exams which were manually marked can be viewed at an assigned time in school on Saturday the 30th between 9.30 and 5pm.
Sunday, August 31st at 10am to Monday, September 1st at 5pm – Applications to appeal subjects can me made online via the CSSP. The fee to appeal a result is €40 per subject for Leaving Certificate and €15.50 for Leaving Certificate Applied. The fee is refunded in the case of a successful appeal, in which the student is upgraded.
Friday, September 26th at 11am – Results of Leaving Cert appeals will be released.
Helpline
The State Exams Comission (SEC) Candidate helpline will be available at 1800 111 135 or 1800 111 136 from Monday to Friday 9 am to 5pm from Friday, 22nd August 2025. Outside of these hours, queries may be e-mailed to candidateportal@examinations.ie. Students need to quote your exam number on all correspondence.
Second-chance Maths exam
Some universities offer students who have not received the required minimum grade in Maths for their chosen course in the Leaving Cert exam, the opportunity to sit an alternative Maths exam. These exams usually take place in the week after the Leaving Cert results are issued. Details of the universities which run these exams and how to apply can be found in the ‘Important Dates’ section of the CAO website.
CAO Round 1 Offers
CAO Round 1 offers will be issued to applicants on Wednesday, August the 27th, from 2pm. Offers can be checked by logging into the ‘My Applications’ section of www.cao.ie using your CAO number, date of birth and CAO account password. Offers will also be issued by email and SMS text. Applicants who are not receiving an offer will receive a ‘Statement of Application’ email. The cut-off points for 2025 will also be published by CAO on their website once the offers are issued. Applicants may receive two offers, one from their level 8 list (Honours Bachelor Degrees) and one from level 7/6 (Ordinary Bachelor Degrees and Higher Certificates) and have the option to accept one offer only. Applicants have the option to accept, decline or apply to defer the offer they receive before the acceptance deadline for Round 1 which is on September 2nd at 3pm. Further rounds of offers continue until all CAO places are filled.

Tuesday, September 23rd at 10am Round 4 offers available online.
Thursday, September 25th at 3pm Round 4 acceptances closing date.
Tuesday, September 30th at 10am - Round 5 offers available online
Thursday, October 2nd at 3pm - Round 5 acceptances closing date.
What to do if no CAO offer is received
The first thing is, don’t panic! If you do not receive a CAO offer you will get a Statement of Application email, so the first thing to do is to check the detail of this and follow the instructions. Check for errors or omissions with your examination number, language exemption or account information and contact the CAO immediately via the Correspondence section of your CAO account. Check that you have the required minimum entry requirements and points. If you are still not entitled to an offer of a place, there is no need to panic as there are lots of options still open these include ‘Available Places on CAO, Post Leaving Cert (PLC) courses in colleges of further education, joint tertiary degrees, apprenticeships, traineeships, supported training programmes in the National Learning Network and study abroad options. There have never been so many ways to follow your your career dreams and ambitions.

The National Parents Council Post Primary (NPCPP) will also be running their annual helpline for students, parents and guardians, which is supported by qualified guidance counsellors. Calls are free at 1800 265 165 or text GUIDANCE to 086 1800 685 and lines are open from 10am to 5pm on weekdays (22nd, 25th – 29th August) and 10am to 2pm on Saturdays (23rd and 30th August).
