Testimonials
“I attended Niamh with my son in his Leaving Cert year just as he was about to pick his courses for CAO. Niamh gave clear and practical advice. She spoke with my son on his own and then after with us both together. There was never a sense that we were on limited time and Niamh answered all of our questions thoroughly. Unfortunately my son did not get his course and this to me is where Niamh’s knowledge and expertise were invaluable. She was always at the end of the phone and she totally reassured me in particular and educated us on all the options available through Post Leaving Cert courses, a route that my son followed and was a great success for him. I would not hesitate in recommending Niamh, she has a wonderful rapport with both students and parents alike. I will certainly be going to Niamh again with my other children to give them every chance in making the best and most informed choice for them.”

“I have sought Niamh’s assistance on two occasions, on both she exhibited the utmost professionalism and duty of care. First, in TY I needed help choosing subjects and looking at career options for after school. As a guidance counsellor, Niamh was of the highest standard, displaying an in-depth knowledge of a variety of courses and options as well as exhibiting a great passion for her job. Following my Leaving Cert I contacted Niamh again to help prepare for an interview for a scholarship and once again she was extremely helpful. She ensured that I was well prepared and played no small part in my success. I have no hesitation recommending Niamh to anyone seeking career guidance or interview preparation.”

“Niamh was extremely approachable to ask for career advice when I wasn’t sure what direction to take. She has a great way with people. The advice Niamh gave me made everything clear in my mind when it came to the path I wanted to take after I finished my degree. She was able to look closely at my strengths and interests, my personality and the areas I need to work on and from that suggest career areas that I could apply them to. I would highly recommend anyone with any doubts or questions about career to make an appointment. You won’t regret it.”

I am a leaving cert student who will complete my exams in 2021. I attended Niamh Dwyer in July 2020. At that time I did not know what course or career path I would follow post leaving cert. Niamh discussed my subjects, courses (specific to my subjects and my interests) and possible future career choices. She informed me of the various routes to achieve my course and thanks to Niamh I now have a definite career path. I would highly recommend Niamh to future leaving cert students.

‘I got recommended to get in touch with Niamh by one of my teachers. I will say that this was the best decision that I made. I am a student in my last year of high school in Dubai. I was pretty clueless about the university process and the specific course that I wanted to take. However, I found the right help through Niamh, and I couldn’t be more grateful. She did endless research in the different countries which I wanted to apply to and she managed to find the exact courses I wanted to take. Not only is she very professional, but she is a lovely person and is really invested in helping you. She made my college application process much easier and I don’t think I would have managed without her help.’

“During the pandemic I had lots of time to think & came to realise I was unhappy in my current job. I have no qualifications and had worked in two areas in retail & a factory over the past 20 years. I knew I wanted change but had absolutely no idea on where to start! I decided to seek advice from Niamh & she went over and beyond all my expectations. She told me about the access routes I could take as a mature student, she listened to me, and she gave me the confidence and reassurance to make the move. I have since been accepted to my course of choice & looking forward to the future. I would highly recommend Niamh not only on her knowledge of pathways but her reassurance and follow up. She is highly professional and so understanding.”
— Antoinette (Mature Student, returning to education)

“After working for 20 years in the catering industry, my job became redundant in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. I saw this as an opportunity to take my career in a new direction. I contacted Niamh, looking for some guidance on this. Her approach was very professional, and I found her very easy to talk with. I felt that she took the time to listen to me and got a good understanding of my situation. She subsequently was able to provide me with some very solid and relevant advice.
Considering all the employments I have had in my career to date, Niamh helped me to recognise the wealth of experience I have amassed in that time. This has given me the confidence to use that knowledge to diversify in my career and consider developing my own business. Niamh identified shortfalls in the market that were not already being addressed and suggested ways I could make an opportunity of these. She provided details of a variety of relevant business supports, training courses and resources.
I came away from my session with Niamh feeling armed with a clear vision of how to progress my career, but knowing that her door would still be open, should I need further help.”

My daughter is in 5th year and will do Leaving Cert in 2022. I contacted Niamh as I wanted to get a plan in place early so that my daughter knows what she has to work towards. My daughter has taken Japanese on from scratch for the Leaving Cert and we were interested in what kind of 3rd level courses and career options Niamh could suggest. We were asked to fill in a form before the consultation which asked for lots of information. Most of it was school and subject based, but some was based on my daughters interests so I really felt that Niamh had a really good sense of my daughter as a person before she met her online.
Niamh spoke with my daughter for a long time and I joined towards the end. She gave us so many really useful tips on how best to prioritise subjects in order to get the best points. She also gave us useful website addresses for virtual open days and tours of 3rd level colleges. There is one course in particular that my daughter is interested in and Niamh made us aware of a very important entry requirement that we hadn't known about. I found this so helpful. I feel that this zoom consultation has given my daughter a real sense of purpose and it's early enough for her to work hard to get the points she needs. I'm in Dublin and Niamh is in Kerry but you would never have known that during the consultation. Thank you so much Niamh.

‘My son is in Leaving Cert class of 2021 and was very confused on what he would like to do in college and what career path he should follow. Niamh had been recommended by a family member although she was based in Kerry and us in Meath, it didn’t make any difference as she was able to offer my son an online appointment. Niamh ensured she was fully equipped and prepared for the appointment, having got him to provide subject information and his likes and dislikes. She spent time discussing different college courses and how to research their content and potential job opportunities. At the end of the session she provided me with an overview of what was discussed and what my son’s focus should be. I would highly recommend Niamh as she is very knowledgeable and informative in the area of career guidance.’
— Julie (Parent of a Leaving Cert Student), Meath
I consulted Niamh for advice for my son in Transition Year (2020) regarding subject choices and possible 3rd level courses that he might be interested in. Niamh asked us to fill out a questionnaire before the consultation which asked for lots of information from my son. She spoke first with my son on his own and then to both of us. Afterwards, she sent a detailed report which was very helpful. As my son is in TY, he has time to explore the many courses suggested to us more fully. He is more confident that the subjects he plans to take for Leaving Cert are the right ones for his interests and future 3rd level studies. Niamh also gave us practical advice to help him decide what his future career might be. We were able to do this consultation via Zoom, even though we are at opposite ends of the country. We live in Donegal and Niamh lives in Kerry! Thank you Niamh.

My daughter meet with Niamh on zoom. I really couldn’t have predicted what she got out of the session: she got incredible detail from Niamh on what subjects were within courses in university, how much of each subject would go towards credits in each year, all available on course descriptor detail but we needed help to figure out what it all meant. Niamh gave great insight into courses that we were unaware of and reflected the subjects my daughter liked. We now have a lot of homework & research to do but we have much more knowledge on how to do it.
— Vicki (Parent of a 5th year student) Cork

‘Niamh’s wealth and knowledge regarding career guidance was evident from the minute our session began. Niamh was an extremely warm person to engage with and I felt comfortable when addressing any questions or concerns that I had. Niamh helped me to navigate my worries around my future career path by providing her own personal opinions as well as sharing valuable resources where I could continue my own research. Niamh took into account my personality, my values, my goals and prospects for the future. As further study is something that is a year down the line for me, Niamh provided me with courses and opportunities that will help me to continue developing my skills while I am waiting to apply for my chosen postgraduate course.
